Kansas City University Libraries: How to Use the Catalog

Welcome to the KCU Libraries

How to Use the Library Catalog

How to Create An Account

You don't need to create an account to search the Library Catalog, but you will need one to place holds, renew items, and see a list of your current checkouts.

To create an account, navigate to the catalog, click on the user icon in the upper right corner, and select "Sign in":

Next, click on "Need a new PIN?":

You will then be prompted to enter your barcode:

If you don't know your barcode, please contact library staff. After entering your barcode, you will get an e-mail asking you to create a PIN. Your PIN must be 6 digits, numbers only.

How to Place Holds

If the book/item you are looking for is checked out, you can place a hold on it, and the library will contact you when it is available. First, click on the "Place a Hold" button:

If you're not already logged into your Library Catalog account, you will be prompted to log in. Select your preferred pickup location (D'Angelo Library/Kansas City or Dawson Library/Joplin) from the dropdown menu, then "Place Hold":

You will receive an e-mail when your book is ready to pick up.

How to Renew Items and Cancel Holds

From the top of the catalog homepage, click on "My Bookshelf." If you're not already logged into your Library Catalog account, you will be prompted to log in. Once logged in, your bookshelf will show your current holds, checkouts, and fees:

Underneath each item in your "Checkouts" tab you will see the due date, and an option to "Renew":

Underneath each item in your "Holds" tab you will see your position in the hold queue, and an option to "Remove hold":

Alternatively, you can contact library staff and ask us to renew your item(s) or cancel your hold(s).
